Mr. Baradat
What you will notice in my classroom (adapted from “Well, Duh!” – Ten Obvious Truths That We Shouldn’t Be Ignoring” by Alfie Kohn.
- I LOVE MY JOB! – I truly enjoy spending time teaching and learning from your children. I care about these kids and I want them to succeed. In June, it is sad to say goodbye.
- If I am not interested in what I am teaching, the students will not be interested in what they are learning. We will spend time exploring the concepts of what we are learning rather than memorizing facts or working toward a standardized test. I want students to think critically and be heard when they share their thoughts in class.
- I will challenge your kids. However, in saying this, I will not be asking them to do things that are inappropriate for their age or academic experience. These are kids, so my job is to lead them to develop skills that will last them throughout their academic careers. I am not expecting perfection from them. Rather, I am expecting them to try their best and learn from what we are doing in class.
- School is more than learning facts and earning points for it. I want your kids to feel honored for the effort that they put forward. I want them to feel safe while they learn. Most importantly, I want your kids to be happy while they learn.
English/Literature:
The focus of ELA will be reading and responding to great literature. We will be reading To Kill a Mockingbird, The Crucible, Night, Animal Farm, and Of Mice and Men. We will also read some American short stories. Students will be developing critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate these selections. There will be a comprehensive grammar unit to augment the writing skills that will be emphasized.
