CONGRATULATIONS to the Sutter Debate Team that went to the Thunder Madness tournament in Huntington Beach. The team of Andrew, Jolie, and Justine won the tournament in a very intense debate in front of the entire tournament. They held their ground and won in a unanimous decision. Along with Jordan, Lozza, and Lily, the Sutter team also won top school honors. It was a magnificent day.

Students can participate in Sutter Speech and Debate in two ways. They can enroll in the year-long debate class (open to seventh and eighth graders), ore they can participate in the club held in Room 205 once a week on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:20. All students may participate in tournaments provided that Mr. Baradat sees that they are prepared. For Speech Tournaments, students must have their speech memorized by the Monday before the tournament. Debaters must have their speeches researched and written at least two weeks before a tournament. Individual Event (IE) Speech tournaments are held on Friday evenings from 4-8:30 p.m. and debate tournaments are on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
There are 4 Capitol Region Debate League tournaments held between October and March. National Finals Regionals and NorCal Cup Debate Championships are held in April and May. Participants in these tournaments are coach's choice (usually held by try-out).
